Punctually at 11.30 a.m., the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in Stockholm announced that the Nobel Prize for Medicine or Physiology 2022 will go to Svante Pääbo. The Swedish geneticist receives the prize for his work on the genomes of extinct hominins, whose fragments he extracted from tens of thousands of years old bones and reassembled them.
The Nobel Laureates in Medicine are traditionally announced as the first. On the following day, October 4, the public will find out who will be awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics; on October 5, the announcement of the winners of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry will follow.
