A long march through enemy territory

In 401 before the turn of the times, a large army of Greek mercenaries set off on the way to the Persian Greater Empire. Also included: the Xenophon writer. Actually, they were recruited to put down an uprising, but after months of tedious walk, they face the huge army of the Grand King Artaxerxes II instead.

Although the Greeks are convinced that they have won the battle, the situation is soon hopeless and they now have to fear for their lives. And so they set off to escape to the Black Sea.

In this episode, we talk about the tens of thousand how Xenophon became the military leader and wrote one of the most read books in antiquity with the "anabasis".
